Ursula Apologises Over Her One-Vote-Lost-In-Ebony Comment

The Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has rendered an unqualified apology over her comments at the one-week celebration for Ebony held in her constituency.

In a video, which has since gone viral on social media, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful, who addressed sympathisers as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency, said she has been saddened by the loss of the hiplife artiste, Ebony, who is a constituent.

Speaking in local language Twi, the MP said she has lost one vote by the death of the multiple hits composer.

Many criticized the politician for mourning the loss of Ebony only because of votes.

But in a statement on Tuesday to render an apology, the Communications Minister accused hirelings of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and “rented journalists” for the spin.

“I wish to first and foremost apologise to the family and friends of Ebony who are hurt by the spin on my words which were taken completely out of context,” she stated.

“Those behind it as confirmed, being some NDC hirelings and rented journalists intended to have me be the object of ridicule and abuse on social media and possibly have me reshuffled by H. E the President as a Minister, have already failed.”

She admitted that it would have been “disrespectful” if she mourned Ebony just because of her vote.

“That is not part of my nature as a politician who has lived all her life showing respect and dignity to all manner of persons, dead or alive, which those close to me, including President Nana Akufo-Addo, know”.

She expressed determination to “continue to work to actualize the vision of HE for the communication sector and to retain the Ablekuma West seat for NPP in 2020.”
