The 13-year-old girl was sexually violated in October 2016 at Namolgo in the Talensi district.

The parents of the 13-year-old girl, after reporting the case to the Bolgatanga Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), could not afford GHc 300 for the endorsement of a police medical examination forms to commence the prosecution of her case.

Speaking to Citi News on the latest development, Deputy Regional DOVVSU Officer, Veronica Obese, explained that, the child protection network intervened by getting the medical form of the victim endorsed.

“The docket of the victim was sent to the Attorney General’s office without the endorsed police medical form so the child protection network intervened through the Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Kofi Issah, and the appropriate doctor finally endorsed the form. So once the medical form was endorsed, we forwarded the endorsed form to the Attorney General’s office and are awaiting advice and further directives on the matter.”

Madam Obese added that, the police have intensified the search for Akwesi Zomnok, who forced the 13-year-old girl and a boy, whose exact age cannot be ascertained, to have sex against their will in a bush in Namolgo while he filmed them.

The mother of the victim reported the rape on February 2, 2017,  after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
