The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia has reacted to Nana Akufo-Addo’s analogy that the forthcoming election was a “David vrs Goliath” fight.

Speaking during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto launch last Sunday, Nana Addo said: “So let me speak the words of David to our Goliath….You come to me with a sword, with a spear and with a javelin.

“But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel [Ghana], who you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel [Ghana]. Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear, for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you in you our hands”

Comparing the elections to the biblical battle between Israel’s David and Goliath as stated in 1 Samuel 17:45-47, Nana Addo related himself to David and President John Mahama to Goliath and concluded that even though the NDC had more money than the NPP, the battle would be the Lord’s.

He said their opponent [NDC] was confident that “they can buy your vote, If they cannot, they will try to bully you.”

“In this election, we are faced with an opponent with unrestrained and unprincipled access to state resources, with apparently unlimited cash,” Nana Addo said.

But responding in a radio interview on Okay FM Tuesday morning, Mr Asiedu Nketiah said Nana Addo cannot relate himself to David and John Mahama to Goliath since in the Bible Goliath was older than David.

To him Nana Addo who fits the status as a father to John Mahama cannot put himself in the shoes of David since it was a mismatch, so in truth Nana Addo is the Goliath, he said.

Asked by his host, Kwame Nkrumah Tikese whether Nana Addo’s analogy was made in the metaphysical sense and not age wise, Mr Nketiah a.k.a. General Mosquito said David was a small shepherd boy who did what the elderly could not do.

So how can Nana Addo make himself a shepherd boy and John Mahama a Goliath? Maybe he is not a church goer and cannot interpret the Bible well, he said.
