Gabby Nketia To ‘fire Up’ CPP Campaign

Running mate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Gabby Nsiah Nketia has promised to lead a reconciliation drive to bring all disgruntled members on board the party’s campaign.

According to him, the only way the party can win the December 7 general elections is to have a united front, and he will thus extend an olive branch to all those who have taken the back seat from party activities.

Nana Gabby Nketia revealed this in an exclusive interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday.

Leading members of the CPP including its former Chairman, Samia Nkrumah appear to have taken a back seat after she lost the flagbearership contest to Ivor Kobina Greetstreet.

Greenstreet fended off competition from Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who had been widely tipped to emerge victorious.

The situation became murkier when the party suspended its General Secretary, Nii Armah Akomfrah and National Youth Organizer, Ernesto Yeboah deemed to be supporters of former Chairman for reportedly going contrary to party rules.

This has generated a lot of bickering in the party with political pundits predicting the electoral fortunes of the CPP might dwindle if nothing is done about it.

But Nana Gabby Nketia says he has begun the process of reconciliation and homecoming to settle all differences in the party.

He believes the only way Ghanaians will see the CPP as an alternative to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is when they are united.

On what he brings to the ticket, the 72-year-old businessman who has worked with both the Ghana Armed Forces and the British Army said his international influence and in-depth knowledge in Ghana’s body politic will complement the efforts of the CPP flagbearer, Ivor Greenstreet.

He said Ghanaians should not underestimate the CPP since President Hilla Limann used two and half months to win the 1979 elections.

“We will pull a surprise by winning the elections so CPP should not be taken for granted,” he stressed.

Nana Gabby Nketia urged Ghanaians to join the rejuvenated CPP to liberate the country from what he described as incompetent leadership.
