Former President John Kufuor Is Not Dead

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has fiercely denied false reports suggesting that he has passed on. Reports on social media on Monday, suggested that the former President who was seeking medical care at Johannesburg in South Africa, died after a spine operation. Some of the reports had claimed that a team of medical doctors successfully performed the surgery and moments after the procedure he died., after which he died.

But the office of the former President has rubbished the death claims. They have affirmed that John Kufuor is not dead and that he is about his normal duties. Spokesperson to the former President, Frank Agyekum, is calling on the public to disbelieve the death rumors stating that the fake news is “being peddled by some faceless individuals.”

Former Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani has also dismissed the false reports suggesting that John Kufuor was dead. Speaking to adomonline.com, he expressed surprise at the news making headlines about the purported death and wondered what motivated it in the first place. Kwadwo Mpiani during the interaction, also revealed that the former President only traveled to Senegal on an international assignment, but has since returned to Ghana.

Following the false news of Kufuor’s death, friends and sympathizers began to make calls to persons closely linked to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) icon.

John Agyekum Kufuor served as President of Ghana from 2001 to 2009. He was also Chairperson of the African Union from 2007 to 2008.

Kufuor was a minister in Kofi Abrefa Busia’s Progress Party government, during Ghana’s Second Republic and a Popular Front Party opposition frontbencher, during the Third Republic. In the Fourth Republic, he stood as the NPP’s candidate at the 1996 election and then led it to victory in 2000 and 2004. Having served two terms, in 2008 he was no longer eligible for the presidency.
