Chiefs in Akuapim Mampong in the Eastern Region have expressed their dissatisfaction with the seeming neglect of notable edifices cited in the community in honor of the man recognized for bringing cocoa into Ghana, Tetteh Quarshie.

The edifices including a hospital, the first cocoa farm, a cocoa museum and a factory which is supposed to employ 2000 persons are all not in the best of states.

Adomonline.com published a story of how the factory which is at the roofing stage is now the home of reptiles and several wild animals.

Roofing of the cocoa museum is also leaking with Electricity Company of Ghana and the Ghana Water Company disconnecting light and water to the facility due to the non-payment of electricity and water bills.

Reacting to the story on Adom FM’s Morning Show, Dwaso Nsem Wednesday, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Cocobod said the state institution have not neglected the facilities arguing that some of the facilities including the cocoa farm is being managed by the Cocoa Research Institute.

Noah Amenyo said that the institute had been maintaining the farm and further claimed that some family members of the late Tetteh Quarshie were also the ones manning the farm.

The uncompleted factory, he added would have to be converted into a museum since the vision have changed.

The claims of the Cocobod PRO, the chiefs said were never true as according to them, Cocobod has never bothered to see to the improvement of the farm nor any of the edifices put up in honour of Tetteh Quarsie.

The chiefs led by Mampong Abradehene, Nana Pebi Brafo I alleged that cocobod officials do not even pay a visit to the town to check on the state of the facilities.

One, Asomani, the chiefs said was forced to take charge of the farm after years of neglect. A son of Asomani who is now late have now been employed by Cocobod to take care of the farm.

They further threatened to ‘deal seriously’ with any cocobod official who would come to the farm for seedlings to take to Bunso.

The delegation included Nana Sakyi Adipo, Mampong Baamuhene, Nana Kwaku Addo II, Akrahene, Hon Odoi Amakye, ex-Assemblyman, Okyeame Obuobi, Abusuapnyin Kwadwo Gyan, Adukrohene Abusuapanyn, Okyeame Kwaku Boadu, Adukrohene Okyeame and Abusuapanyin Kofi Asare, Mampong Mankrado.
