Residents of both Nkonya and Alavanyo townships in the Volta region are appealing to government to take a second look at the curfew hours imposed on them.
According to them, the reviewed curfew will affect businesses and social activities in the area and called for a reduction of the hours.
This follows a review of the curfew in the area from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am and 8: pm to 5:30 am.
The curfew according to the Interior Minister Ambrose Dery was necessitated by a recent shooting incident that occurred in the area resulting to the death of a 62-year-old woman who is said to have gone out of her home to pick mangoes on Saturday.
But speaking to Adom News, the Chief of Alavanyo, Togbe Tsedze Atakora says curfew will not solve the long standing issues between the two towns.
According to him, the killings have nothing to do with the protracted land dispute.
Also, the Assemblyman for Nkonya Ntumda, Sylvester Akompi also doubted the efficiency of the curfew.
He also claims that unscrupulous persons sometimes embark on shooting spree in the area even during curfew hours and therefore called on government to put stringent measures in place to curb the issue.
