Top 55 Visa Free Countries You Can Visit with a Ghanaian Passport

The Ghanaian passport is one of the most respected passports in Africa; ranked 73rd on the Henley & Partners Visa Restrictions Index. As of 2016, Ghanaian citizens had visa-free, visa on arrival or e-Visa access to 64 countries. Because of the ECOWAS agreement, citizens of Ghana can visit West African countries without visa for up to 90 days. We look at the countries that Ghanaian citizens can travel without visa or can obtain visa on arrival.

Bangladesh – 90 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required: Ghanaian citizens can stay in Bangladesh for 90 days without visa. Visitors are required to hold return or onward tickets and proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay; if not they could be refused entry.

Barbados – 180 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required (6 months): Nationals of Ghana can stay for up to 6 months without visa. They must have a ticket proving that their final destination is their country of origin or residence.

Belize


Valid passport is required: Visitors who have visited Congo (Dem. Rep), Nigeria, Guinea, Liberia or Sierra Leone are subject to screening and health checks. Passengers may be quarantined for further assessment. Visitors must hold at least USD 50 per person per day and require documents and a ticket for their next destination. Extension of stay is possible for those listed under visa exemptions.

Benin – 90 Days Visa Free


Passport is required: Nationals of Ghana are allowed to enter with an expired passport. The passport is accepted when expired for a maximum of 5 years. Nationals of Ghana have a maximum stay of 90 days.

Burkina Faso


Valid passport is required: A visa is not required for Ghanaians but passports must be valid for the intended period of stay. Visitors are also required to hold documents and a ticket for their next destination.

Cape Verde – 180 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required: Citizens from Ghana don’t require a visa. Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Passengers with an ID card issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to foreign mission personnel are also accepted.

Côte d’Ivoire


Valid passport is required: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the period of intended stay. Non-machine readable passports issued to nationals of Ghana are not accepted. Visitors are required to hold proof of hotel accommodation and all documents required for their next destination.

Dominica – 180 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required: Visa is not required for Nationals of Ghana for a maximum stay of 6 months. Passports accepted for entry must be valid on arrival. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay and documents required for their next destination. Visitors not holding return/onward ticket could be refused entry. Exempt for students and faculty staff of Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) holding a student visa and work permit.

Ecuador – 90 Days Visa Free


Passport must be valid for at least 6 months: Nationals of Ghana can stay in Ecuador for 90 days without visa. Extension of stay is possible. Onward or return tickets are required if not visitors could be refused entry.

Fiji – 120 Days Visa Free


Passport must be valid for at least 6 months: Ghanaian citizens can stay Fiji for up to 120 days without visa. Visitor Permits are issued on arrival for stays of maximum of 4 months, which may be extended. Visitors must hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay, confirmed accommodation, documents required for their next destination and holding return or onward tickets; if not visitor could be refused entry.

The Gambia – 90 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required: Ghanaians don’t required visa to enter Gambia for up to 90 days. Passport must be valid for not less than 6 months. Visitors could be refused entry if they don’t present return or onward tickets and proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay.

Grenada – 90 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required: Citizens from the West African nation can enter Grenada without visa for a maximum stay of 3 months. Onward documents and air tickets must be presented at the time of entry.

Guinea


Passports and other travel documents must be valid on arrival: Visa not required but visitors without return or onward ticket may be denied entry.

Guinea-Bissau – 90 Days Visa Free


Passports and other travel documents must be valid on arrival: Guinea-Bissau allows citizens from Ghana to stay in the country for up to 90 days without visa; extension of stay is possible.

Haiti – 90 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required: Nationals of Ghana with a normal passport for a maximum stay of 3 months. Admission refused to visitors arriving from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone within the last 21 days. Visitors must show return or onward tickets and must provide an address (place of stay) in Haiti.

Indonesia – 30 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required for a minimum of 6 months: Nationals of Ghana for a maximum stay of 30 days; must present return or onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds. This does not apply when traveling for journalism visits. Passengers exceeding their permitted stay will be fined(Note: The day of arrival in Indonesia is counted as the first day of stay).- Extensions of stay are possible depending on the type of visa.

Jamaica


Valid passport is required for a minimum of 6 months: Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay and documents for their next destination and must hold return/onward tickets.

Kenya – 90 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required for a minimum of 6 months: Ghanaian citizens can stay in Kenya for up to 90 days without visa. E-visas can also be obtained before departure at www.ecitizen.go.ke which you will present the printed e-visa confirmation. Visitors must hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay; at least USD 500, ticket and documents for their next destination.

Liberia


Passports and other documents accepted: No visa is needed to enter Liberia for citizens of Ghana.

Mali


Passports and other documents accepted: No visa is needed to enter Mali for citizens of Ghana. Minors below the age of 18 who are not accompanied by their legal guardian need an authorization from their guardian.

Mauritius – 90 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required for a minimum of 3 months: Ghanaians don’t need visa to visit Mauritius for up to 90 days. The maximum stay granted for tourists is 180 days within one calendar year.The maximum stay granted for those traveling on business is 120 days within one calendar year, with a maximum of 90 days per visit. Visitors must have a ticket proving that their final destination is their country of origin or residence and are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay; minimum of USD 100 per day and confirmed hotel reservation.

Mauritius – 30 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required for a minimum of 120 days: Nationals of Ghana don’t require a visa for a maximum stay of 30 days. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay and must have return or onward tickets.

Niger


Passports and other documents accepted: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid on arrival. Visa is not required.

Nigeria


Passports and other documents accepted: Passports and other documents accepted for entry issued to nationals of Ghana must be valid on arrival. Visitors not holding return or onward ticket could be refused entry.

Philippines – 30 Days Visa Free


Valid passport is required for a minimum of 6 months: Ghanaian citizens who wish to stay in the Philippines for less than 30 days without visa are good to go. They can apply to extend their stay at any immigration department.

Saint Kitts and Nevis – 90 Days Visa Free


Passport required: Passports accepted for entry be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Nationals of Ghana for a maximum stay of 3 months. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay and documents required for their next destination. Must contact the Ministry of Finance for extension of stay.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines – 30 Days Visa Free


Passport required: Passports for entry must be valid for the period of intended stay. Nationals of Ghana for a maximum stay of 1 month. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay and documents required for their next destination. Visitors not holding return/onward ticket could be refused entry. Extension of stay possible for Ghana Passport.

Senegal – 90 Days Visa Free


Passport required: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 3 months from the arrival date. Nationals of Ghana for a maximum stay of 90 days and can extend their stay.

Sierra Leone


Passport required: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid on arrival. Visa is not required.

Singapore – 30 Days Visa Free


Valid passport required: Passports accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Nationals of Ghana have visa-free in Singapore for a maximum stay of 30 days. Extension of stay is possible for a fee of SGD 40. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay and documents required for their next destination. Visitors not holding return or onward tickets could be refused entry.

Swaziland – 30 Days Visa Free


Passport required: Nationals of Ghana can stay in Swaziland for a maximum stay of 30 days without visa. All visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay, documents required for their next destination and . Visitors not holding return or onward tickets or sufficient funds to purchase a ticket, could be refused entry. Extension of stay is possible for a total stay of 90 days to nationals of Ghana. Persons intending to stay longer than 90 days, must obtain a Temporary Residence Permit from the Chief Immigration.

Tanzania – 90 Days Visa Free


Passport required: Nationals of Ghana can enter Tanzania f0r 90 days without visa. Passports accepted for entry must be valid on arrival.

Togo


Passport required: Visa not required. Visitors are required to hold documents required for their next destination. Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid on arrival.

Trinidad and Tobago


Passport required: Visa not required for Nationals of Ghana. Passengers under 17 years of age traveling with their guardians must hold a notarized letter of authorization from their biological parents. Copies of their biological parents’ ID cards must be attached to the letter of authorization. Visitors must hold return or onward tickets.

Swaziland – 90 Days Visa Free


Passport required: Nationals of Ghana for a maximum stay of 3 months. Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Visitors are required to provide contact details of a person or organization in Uganda and an address and phone number of the place of stay in Uganda; proof of the purpose of stay and sufficient funds to cover their stay. Visitors without return or onward tickets could be refused entry.

Zimbabwe – 90 Days Visa Free


Passport required: Nationals of Ghana for a maximum stay of 3 months. Passports must be valid for the period of intended stay. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay and must have return or onward tickets.

Bolivia – 90 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport and Invitation Letter required: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months. Passengers with an invitation letter can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 90 days; should have one passport photo. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay, documents and tickets required for their next destination. Extension of stay is possible.

Cambodia – 30 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Nationals of Ghana can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days. They must have a passport with at least 1 unused visa page and a passport photo. They can apply to extend their stay. Visitors are not permitted to make a day trip (arriving and departing on the same day) to Cambodia. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay and return ticket.

Comoros – 45 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Nationals of Ghana can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 45 days. Visitors are required to hold documents for their next destination and tickets.

Djibouti


Passport required: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid on arrival. Nationals of Ghana can obtain a visa on arrival.

Iran – 15 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the period of intended stay. Passengers with a normal passport traveling as tourists can obtain a visa on arrival at GheshmIsland (GSM), Kish Island (KIH), Mashhad (MHD), Esfahan (IFN),Shiraz (SYZ), Tabriz (TBZ) and Tehran Imam Khomeini (IKA) for a maximum stay of 15 days. They can apply to extend their stay.
Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay, documents required for their next destination and tickets. All foreigners entering Iran must register at any police station within 8 days after arrival. Reporters, journalists, photographers and cameramen of any nationality other than Iranian require a visa. Admission will be refused to women not wearing Islamic head cover, scarf, long sleeves or stockings and holders of passports or travel documents containing a visa or stamp for Israel or any data that passenger has been to Israel or indication of any connection with the State of Israel.

Madagascar – 90 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must bevalid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Passengers with a confirmed return or onward ticket can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 90 days. Passports of visitors must contain at least 1 unused visa page.

Maldives – 30 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for the period of intended stay. Nationals of Ghana can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days. They can apply to extend their stay for an additional 60 days. Visitors are required to hold documents for their next destination and return or onward tickets.- Visitors who do not have a Hotel reservation or a Maldivian sponsor are required to hold at least USD 30 per person per day to cover their stay.

Mauritania


Passport required: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid on arrival. Nationals of Ghana can obtain a visa on arrival at Nouakchott (NKC). Visitors are required to hold documents required for their next destination.Warning:- Visitors not holding return or onward tickets could be refused entry.

Mozambique – 30 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports accepted for entry must be valid on arrival. Nationals of Ghana can obtain a visa on arrival at Beira (BEW), Nampula (APL), Maputo (MPM), Pemba(POL), Tete (TET) and Vilankulo (VNX) for a maximum stay of 30 days if they have a return or onward ticket, sufficient funds to support their stay and proof of purpose of visit. They can apply to extend their stay for an additional 30 days.

Nicaragua – 90 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Nationals of Ghana can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days; costing USD 50. All visitors are required to obtain a Tourist Card on arrival (USD 10), hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay, documents required for their next destination and return or onward tickets. Extension possible for a fee of USD 2 per day of stay.

Palau – 30 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Nationals of Ghana can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days. They can apply to extend their stay. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay (USD 200.- per week), documents required for their next destination and tickets.

Rwanda – 30 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Nationals of Ghana can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days. They can apply to extend their stay. Also Passengers with an “East African Tourist Visa” issued by Kenya or Uganda if having first entered the country that issued the visa. The visa is valid for 90 days and for multiple entries or re-entries.

Saint Lucia – 42 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 3 months from the arrival date. Nationals of Ghana can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 6 weeks. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay, documents required for their next destination and return tickets.- Extensions of stay possible, by applying at the main Immigration office in Castries.

Samoa – 60 Days Entry Permit On Arrival


Passport required: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the period of intended stay. Passengers can obtain an entry (or transit) permit on arrival for a maximum stay of 60 days; are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay and return ticket. Extension of stay is possible.

Seychelles – 90 Days Visitor’s Permit On Arrival


Passport required: Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for the period of intended stay. Passengers can obtain a “Visitor’s Permit” on arrival for a maximum stay of 3 months. They must have onward or return ticket, sufficient funds (minimum of USD 150 or equivalent per day) and proof of accommodation during stay. They can apply to extend their stay; visitors wishing to stay longer than the permitted stay,should apply for an extension at least one week to its expiry. Visitor’s permits are not extendable beyond 12 months.

Timor-Leste – 30 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 3 months beyond the period of intended stay. Passengers can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days. Their passport must contain at least 1 unused visa page. Fees are payable in USD only. Passengers can extend their stay to a total cumulative stay of 90 days by submitting their application to the Immigration Department; fee: USD 35.- for up to 30 days; USD75 for between 30 and 60 days. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay (USD 150.- per day), proof of hotel accommodations arrangements and return tickets. Those who have overstayed their visa may be subject to fines.

Tuvalu – 30 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Nationals of Ghana can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 1 month. They must hold confirmed return or onward tickets and proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay.

Zambia – 90 Days Visa On Arrival


Passport required: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 4 months beyond the period of intended stay. Nationals of Ghana traveling as tourists can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 90 days. The passport must contain at least 1 unused visa page. Visitors are required to hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay and documents required for their next destination.Visitors not holding return or onward tickets could be refused entry.
