There were reports earlier suggesting that three patients have died at facility this week because of oxygen shortage and the administration of expired anesthesia drugs on them.

But the Director of Pharmacy, at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Hamid Abdulai in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM maintained that the said media reports is a fabrication.

“There is no issue or statement or occurrence of lose of any life due to expired anesthetic medications. The Hospital secured the anesthetic medication on the 28th of February, 2017. But the Head of the Anesthesia Unit, Mr Mumuni stated that his people will not accept this particular brand called NOR-Q. Upon our verification this happens to be the only brand available in the country. But they insist that they will not be able to use claiming that it is ineffective.

“Verifying with other sister facility, including Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and Tamale West Hospital indicates that it is the same product that anesthetists across the country have been using for sometime now without any problem. I do not know what claims our anesthetists are putting forward and what they are seeking to achieve as other anesthetists in the country have been using this product successfully. There has never been the occurrence of issuance of any expired product to that unit and all other units involved. As far as we are concerned the story and the allegation is completely false.”
