For this year’s election, about 65,000 voters comprising security operators and media practitioners, are expected to cast their ballot via special voting.

However, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has faulted the register that will be used for the polls. The party has identified multiple registrants in the electoral roll provided by the EC. The NPP’s Campaign Manager Peter Mac Manu, who revealed this, has also alleged of multiple registrants in the electoral roll provided by the EC.

Mr Manu said that the development will cause the party’s agents to protest and challenge the eligibility of such some voters, when they come to vote.

Also, reports emerging from the ongoing exercise, suggest that voting was halted at the Nima Police Station in the Ayawaso East Constituency in Accra, following confusion at the polling centre due to some missing names in the voters’ register. Some of the people who were to cast their votes in the special voting exercise, were turned away by officials of the Electoral Commission at the centre, on grounds that their names are not in the register.

Also, some police officers in Tamale also have their names missing on the register, hence their inability to vote. At least 30 officers, including the Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, had their names missing from the voters’ register for the constituency. The police officers have threatened to boycott their election duties on December 7 if they are not allowed to vote.

There have been no further reports on the issue. We will bring you more updates as events unfold…
