Parliament’s Appointments Committee is expected to begin sitting from Friday, January 20 to vet nominees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for ministers.

The Seventh Parliament adjourned on Wednesday to pave way for the vetting exercise.

A public notice is expected to be sent out to collate all the necessary information about the nominees to aid the Committee in vetting them. So far, President Akufo-Addo has nominated 25 persons for various ministerial positions.

He named his first batch on Tuesday, January 10 and followed up with his second on Wednesday, January 11.

Some ministers including Albert Kan Dapaah (National Security), John Alan Kyerematen (Trade and Industry) and Yaw Osafo Mafo (Senior Minister) who were members of the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor government were part of the first batch of nominees.

New faces such as Ken Ofori-Atta (Finance), Dominic Nitiwul (Defence) and Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Education) were also part of Tuesday’s batch.

The second batch had new portfolios like Ministry of Railway Development, Ministry of Sanitation and Ministry of Regional Reorganisation and Special Projects for Joe Ghartey, Joseph Kofi Addah and Daniel Botwe respectively.

The Vetting Committee will be chaired by First Deputy Speaker Joe Osei-Owusu with Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu as the Ranking Member.
