Three Nigerians have been arrested by the police in Tamale, Northern Region, for allegedly selling adulterated detergents on the market.
The suspects were arrested on Wednesday upon a tip-off.
They were marketing and distributing a formulated household cleaning detergent as mouth wash to unsuspecting public.
The three suspects, Sadiq Olatuji, Opkeymi Sampson and Mayowa Olamiloku, are aged between 21 and 22 years.
They are alleged to have recruited others in the business and have been doing so for almost one and a half years.
According to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), the Light Duty Cleaner, an original product of GNLD, has been formulated as a household cleaning product.
“But the suspects dilute the product into solution concealed in smaller bottles which are labeled as products for treating bad breath, foot rot and as mouth wash.”
The Northern Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, told 3news.com that the suspects are in police custody.
ASP Tetteh says the three will be charged and prosecuted for possessing hazardous health products and deception of the public.
The Authority described the products as dangerous to public health.
Acting Head of the FDA in the Northern Region, Kofi Essel, has cautioned residents to stay vigilant in purchasing products from vendors.
He also urged the public to mindful of people that offer job opportunities.
