Embattled businessman, Alfred Woyome has cried out over what he has described as ‘persecution’ by the Supreme Court. The apex court on Wednesday, approved an application filed by former AG Martin Amidu, to orally examine the businessman, over the controversial GHc 51m judgement debt case against him (Woyome).

Martin Amidu’s application came on the back of a move by the AG’s office, led by Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, to discontinue an oral examination of Woyome, despite serving an earlier notice. Court on Wednesday upheld Mr. Amidu’s application, but Woyome has disagreed with the apex court’s judgement.

Speaking to Graphic online, Mr. Woyome laments he is being persecuted by the Supreme Court. The businessman also revealed the possible reason behind court’s decision. In the interview, he explained that why the court is still on his case, is because the Supreme Court rejected his mode of payment after he was ordered to pay the GHc 51 million.

According to him, he had wanted to pay GHc8 million, and spread the rest over a period of time; but his appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court.

Alfred Woyome vowed to go to any possible length, to seek justice in the case against him, over the repayment of the controversial GHc51 million judgment debt. According to him, though he will pay the money, he will pursue this matter with the last drop of his sweat, until justice is served.

Alfred Woyome was paid ¢51 million after he claimed that he helped Ghana to raise funds to construct stadia for purposes of hosting the CAN 2008 Nations Cup.

But the businessman was indicted by an Auditor General’s report released in 2010, which said the amount was paid illegally to him. Following the report, the Supreme Court in 2014 ordered him to refund the money.

However, Woyome is yet to pay the amount after some efforts were made by the Attorney General to retrieve it proved futile.
