Stealing Manifesto Is A Dangerous Practice – Akufo-Addo Warns

Presidential candidate of NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appeared furious when he waded into concerns of his party that governing National Democratic Congress and some parties have indulged in an ignoble business of stealing NPP’s manifesto ideas.

Addressing a gathering at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra Sunday to launch the NPP manifesto, Nana Akufo-Addo warned about the danger therein for Ghanaians if the nation is ruled with stolen ideas.

He rubbished position by some leading members of the NDC that having similar ideas in different manifesto is a manifestation of the popular adage that great minds think alike.

Asking people’s mandate to govern, he stated, is a “serious business”, hence the need for a party to be decisive on what it wants to do.

The NDC has been trumpeting its catchphrase ‘changing lives, transforming Ghana’, but Akufo-Addo questioned why it moved from the ‘e dey bee k3k3’ that it used in 2012 and “appropriated” the NPP’s ‘transforming lives, transforming Ghana’ slogan.

“It is possible to see the comic side in the manifesto pilfering phenomenon, and agree with the great minds think alike wise cry, but on the other hand, it is a dangerous practice for our country for political parties simply to take concepts and programmes they do not believe in nor have thought through.”

Nana Akufo-Addo recalled when the NDC, then in opposition, walked out of parliament when the National Health Insurance bill was placed before the house.

This, he said, explains why the scheme is in crisis after they NDC promised to make premium payment a onetime thing.

He maintained that the NPP is not going into the December elections with “meaningless slogan” but bent on offering solutions that will “take our country out of the crisis of which we find ourselves”.
