The Majority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli-Kaleo, Mr Alban Bagbin, has appealed to Ghanaians to renew the mandate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in appreciation of its numerous socio-economic development over the past years.

He stated that Ghanaians could not entrust their destiny into the hands of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his divided New Patriotic Party (NPP) after an impressive record of socio-economic development under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.

He was addressing supporters of the party who thronged the Bongasi D/A Primary School park to participate in the launch of the Banda Constituency campaign of the party last Sunday.

Re-election

In support of the re-election bid, the Deputy Majority Whip in Parliament, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, and other doyens of the party graced the occasion to throw their support behind the candidate.

They include, the General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the party’s treasurer, Alhaji Ahmed Abdalla, the National Women’s Organiser, Madam Anita Desooso, former Minister for Power and MP for Pru East, Dr Kwabena Donkor, and former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister and Ghana’s Ambassador to Algeria, Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, among others.

Speakers at the campaign hit at the NPP and its leaders and wondered how Ghanaians could entrust their destiny into the hands of such a divided front.

Mr Bagbin told the crowd that the NDC was the party that accommodated everybody irrespective of their tribal or ethnic background and called on all Ghanaians to join hands with the party to enable it to continue with its developmental agenda.

For his part, Mr Asiedu-Nketia stated that Ghanaians had only two things to choose from in this year’s election, explaining that whereas the NDC was a peaceful party that could not be said of the NPP.

He advised supporters of the NDC not to engage in acts that would disturb the peaceful conduct of the general election.

70 per cent votes target

When Mr Ahmed Ibrahim mounted the podium, he was greeted with drumming, shouts and chanting of the party songs amid dancing and waving of the party’s paraphernalia.

He told the supporters that the party had targeted to win the Banda seat once more with 70 per cent of votes that would be cast during the December 7, 2016 polls.

The Banda seat was created in 2012 from the Tain Constituency and during that year, Mr Ahmed, who was then the MP for Tain, contested the seat and won with 5,645 votes (52.76 per cent) while the NPP candidate, Mr Joe Danquah had 4,950 votes (46.27 per cent).

“The record of the NDC since the seat was created is unparalleled and the people are going to reward it with massive votes,” he stated.

According to the MP, the Banda District had been rated as one of the fastest developing districts in the country with numerous health facilities in all zones and excellent classroom blocks in all the various communities.

He, therefore, appealed to the electorate not to waste their votes by voting for any other party, since the NDC had been tried and tested as a party that could deliver on its promises.
