The People’s National Convention (PNC), has indicated that it will stay vigilant in the processes leading to the special voting exercise on Thursday.

The party said it is concerned about the inclusion of the names of some police recruits on the list of special voters on December 1.

But following an IPAC meeting with the Electoral Commission (EC) last Friday, it reached an agreement on the matter; but emphasized that they will remain vigilant to forestall any compromises of the voters’ list

The General Secretary of the party, Atik Mohammed, told Citi News, “The fact that we accepted the additions, does not mean that we should fold our arms and expect anybody and any name to appear on the day of voting and come and vote in the claim that he or she is one of those who were added at a later time. We need to have a full complement of the list then we can monitor closely and be vigilant as expected by law to be.”

“Inasmuch as we expressed some optimal satisfaction about the voters’ list, we think that we need to have it in our possession so that our vigilance can be complete and we can do a thorough job on the day.”

He said the party would follow up with the Commission to get the full list of registered voters.

He told Citi News the PNC would deploy as many polling agents as possible; to serve in the various polling stations across the country.

The PNC’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Edward Mahama was among some twelve candidates, who were in October this year disqualified from the Presidential race by the Electoral Commission, for committing some errors in filling their nomination forms.

But following a Supreme Court judgement to allow the disqualified candidates time to correct and re-submit the forms, he was cleared to participate in the race.

‘Election will not be free and fair’

Dr. Edward Mahama and two other candidates in a statement issued last week, insisted that this year’s election would not be free and fair, due to some actions and inaction of the Electoral Commission.

They accused the EC of not creating an equal opportunity for the various parties to campaign and have access to all relevant voting documents.
