The Joe Ghartey Committee investigating allegations of bribery against three Members of Parliament and a Minister is likely to submit its report to Parliament on Wednesday.

A member of the investigative committee and MP for Offinso South, Ben Abdallah, says a finishing touch is being applied to the highly anticipated report.

“I don’t know what is contained in the report. Let’s wait and see when the report is laid before Parliament. We are still in the process of putting finishing touches on certain aspects of the report,” he told journalists.

Following the allegation by Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, that then Energy Minister-designate, Boakye Agyarko, attempted bribing minority MPs on the Appointment Committee, the Speaker of Parliament set up a committee to look into the veracity of the claim.

Prof Mike Ocquaye set up the five-member committee, Chaired by Joe Ghartey, to look into allegations that Mr Agyarko attempted to bribe members of the vetting committee through the committee’s chairman, Joseph Osei-Owusu, and the Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak to facilitate his approval.

Public interest peaked as counter-allegations from the accusers attempted to parry off the scalding allegations.

The deadline for the ad hoc committee to finish its work passed about a month ago.

However, Parliament hopes to receive the report before it rises on Thursday. Ben Abdallah told journalists that although a series of meetings have been held to fine tune the final report, he is not certain when it will be ready for the House.

“Definitely the [report] is going to be made public because we did the hearing public,” he assured.
