According to the Ablekuma South law-maker, the police did a good job by increasing its visibility which went a long way to prevent deviant behaviours during the festive season.

The former Accra mayor made the commendation in a telephone interview with Today yesterday.

The Ghana Police Service deployed over 500 personnel to Kwahu in the Eastern Region as part of measures to increase visibility and prevent crime.

“As MPs, we are concerned about the safety of travellers on the roads and it is good for the police to position themselves well to deter criminals and traffic offenders from committing crimes and offer assistance where the need arises,” he noted.

Hon. Okoe Vanderpuije however, reiterated the need to implement preventive measures, and urged the public to report unusual and suspicious characters in society to the police.

He intimated that fighting crime was a shared responsibility between the police and the public, and any information volunteered today could go a long way to create a safe and enabling environment “we all desire to have.”

“Without public cooperation and support, there is very little the police can achieve in terms of its objectives”, the Ablekuma South law-maker lamented.

He therefore, called for police-public collaboration to prevent and fight crime as well.

“We must all make it a point to be vigilant, we must pick up the phone and call the police anytime we see criminal activities around us”, he admonished.
