The governing National Democratic Congress’ one million victory margin target in the Volta Region in the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections is a dream that will not be achieved, Pius Enam Hadzide, an aide to the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said.

According to him, the governing party that claims that the region is its ‘world bank’ in terms of votes has failed to embark on development projects to up lift the standard of living of the people.

His comments follow claims by the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Francis Ganyaglo, that: “John Dramani Mahama has not abandoned the Volta Region. We have had our fair share of development… when it comes to roads. It is amazing the number roads that we have done, some are ongoing and some are in the process of being awarded. When it comes to education infrastructure, we have our fair share.”

“Our chances are very bright and I am sure on that day, 7th December, the people will come out and show their appreciation to John Mahama. Our target as a region will be to have about 1 million votes as the difference between NDC and the next party. We are looking at an average of 96 per cent,” he said

But speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Monday October 24, Mr Hadzide said: “The NDC government has been monumentally incompetent and that has resulted in underdevelopment of the region. They have turned the Volta region to a ‘voter region’ because they think the region is their ‘world bank’ but the people in the region have decided to change their voting pattern in favour of the NPP.”

“Their target (of 1 million votes’ victory margin) is a dream. If you have done some good works as a government, those works should speak for you but as we speak they have failed the people of the region.”
