He expressed the view that unlike its main opponent, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), that had demonstrated failure to unite given the dictatorial posture of its leader, the NDC was tolerant of divergent views from its members, making the party more attractive to the electorate. RalliesMr Amissah-Arthur said this last Thursday when he addressed separate rallies in the Jomoro, Ellembelle and Evalue Ajomoro Gwira constituencies as part of his campaign tour of the Western Region.

Members of the Vice-President’s team included the NDC Director of Elections, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo; the former National Organiser, Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan; a deputy Minister of Lands of Natural Resources, Ms Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, and a leading member, Alhaji Sampson Kwakwa.

On the third day of his campaign in the region, Mr Amissah-Arthur and his team visited Jomoro where they addressed a rally at the Tikobo No.1 Park.Ghana’s High Commissioner to India, Mr Sam Pee Yalley addressed the rally and asked the rank and file of the NDC in the constituency to close their ranks and pursue a vigorous campaign to ensure that the NDC retained the seat.

NDC manifestoTaking his turn to address the people, Mr Ofosu Ampofo said one of the major pillars of the NDC 2016 manifesto was placing people first, adding that the second term of President John Mahama was going to focus on job creation.

He told the people that meaningful development only occurred across the country whenever the NDC was in power and asked the people to renew the mandate of the President to witness more accelerated development in their communities.

The vice-president introduced the NDC parliamentary candidate for Jomoro, Mr Thomas Yankey, to the people and said the NDC was all about development and buttressed his argument with a recently asphalted road from Takoradi to the Jomoro district.Rally at Ellembelle/Evalue GwiraFrom there, the campaign train headed to Esiama in the Ellembelle constituency where he addressed a mammoth rally.

Posters and paraphernalia of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who is also the Minister of Petroleum, were dominant in the constituency.

He addressed the rally in his native language, Nzema, enumerating the numerous development projects he had initiated under the Mahama administration.Addressing the people, Mr Ofosu Ampofo criticised Mr Freddy Blay, who is a former MP for Ellembelle, for his decision to defect from the Convention People’s Party (CPP) to the NPP.

He described his decision to defect as a betrayal of Dr Kwame Nkrumah and contended that Mr Blay’s joining the NPP whose forebears caused the collapse of the Nkrumah government and subsequently denigrated his achievements smacked of hypocrisy.

The vice-president introduced Mr Buah to the NDC supporters and asked them not to rest on their oars but rather embark on a house-to-house campaign to reach out to people who had not yet made up their minds on their choice of candidate in the election.

Finally, Mr Amissah-Arthur and his team ended the day addressing a similar rally at the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira in Axim. He introduced the NDC parliamentary candidate, Mr Kweku Tanikyi Kessie, to the people.

The vice-president later inaugurated a government-funded water project at Esiama.
