Several media reports on Sunday November 13, suggested that supporters of the two main contending political parties; incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) and opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), were involved in a clash. The clash was reported to have taken place at the residence of the NPP Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.

The NDC clash with NPP which took place during a regional health walk organised by the incumbent party, saw a charged crowd reportedly hurling stones into the residence of the opposition leader. According to a report by a Citi News correspondence, the entire place was besieged by NDC supporters who wanted to attack Nana Addo.

NDC supporters were reported to have hurled stones into the residence of the NPP Flagbearer, as they attempted to gain entrance into his residence. Some reports had also indicated the firing of gunshots at Nana Addo’s residence.

The NDC 2016 Campaign has however, hit back at media outlets including Citifmonline.com, for reporting the incident in that manner. The NDC has released a statement saying that the earlier media reports twisted Sunday’s incident. The statement signed by Spokesperson Joyce Bawah Mogtari, condemned the initial reports, calling them false reports from “media partners” of the NPP.

The ruling party in its statement described the ‘false claims’ as a failed attempt to hoodwink the public and the international community.

Following initial reports suggesting that the incumbent party initiated the clash at Nana Addo’s residence, lots of accusing fingers have been pointed at the NDC for advocating violence in the electioneering period.

The NPP condemned the attacks on Sunday, calling on President Mahama to equally condemn it. But the incumbent government has stated that no NDC supporter made any attempt to attack Nana Addo or forcefully enter his residence. They explained that its supporters were only on a health walk that morning and had passed Al-Waleed Bin-Talal Highway, where Nana Akufo-Addo’s residence is located.
