Mr Samuel Akuamoah, the Deputy Chairman of Operations of the Commission, said this at Sandema in the Builsa South District of the Upper East Region at a voters’ education programme.

He said through the EU’s support, many Ghanaians were becoming conscious of the need to maintain and preserve peace in the country.

He said through the activities organized by the Commission, many stakeholders including political parties, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations among others had pledged to ensure peaceful election in December.

Mr Joseph Kwaku Yeboa, Deputy Regional Director of the Commission, who took the participants through Electoral Offenses, called on political parties to desist from destroying or defacing the materials of their opponents.

He also cautioned them not to engage in abusive language, intimidation or violence, provocation, and carrying of arms as these could lead to the disruption of the electoral process.

Mr Yeboa advised election officials not to take alcohol on Election Day and also called on drinking bar operators not to sell alcohol within 500 meters of any of the polling stations.

“Apart from the ballot don’t put any foreign material into the ballot box and thedisplay of party colors at polling centres are not also allowed.

Any person who destroy any literature relating to registration is liable to a fine of GHC 100 or imprisonment of two years or both”, the Deputy Director said.

Mr Pontius Pilate Apaaby Baba, the Regional Director of the Commission, said the Commission has undertaken many activities in all the thirteen districts and educated various stakeholders including political parties, traditional and religious leaders.

He impressed upon all the Political parties to remain committed to the respective agreement they had signed towards ensuring peace in the upcoming election.
