The Narcotics Control Board (Nacob) has arrested three persons on different occasions at the Kotoka International Airport for illegal possession and trafficking of drugs.
The three are Ghanaian Madugu Suraku, Liberian Maxwell Momo Golafale and Nigerian Daniel Njoku Egbuta.
A release from the Board on Thursday, April 13 said the Ghanaian was arrested on March 29 on his return from Kenya.
He “was picked up while going through arrival formalities and a urine test conducted on him proved positive for narcotics”.
He is said to have confessed ingesting 35 pellets of a powdery substance suspected to be Speedball.
“On the other hand, Maxwell Momo Golafale, a Liberian, was arrested on 31st March, 2017 while going through departure formalities to China.
“The suspect had concealed in his luggage two (2) slabs of compressed dried leaves, suspected to be cannabis sativa, popularly referred to as ‘wee’.”
The third suspect, a Nigerian, was arrested on April 5 on his arrival from Brazil.
“Urine test conducted on him subsequently proved positive for cocaine,” the release said, adding that he “ingested 111 pellets of cocaine”.
All three suspects have bee arraigned before court.
Nacob expressed commitment to fight drug trafficking and called on the public to help in the fight against illicit drugs trade “as the fight against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse is a shared responsibility”.
