The Eastern Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Bismark Tawiah Boateng is urging the Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka to resign his position as leader in Parliament.

According to him, his alleged involvement in a bribery scandal that has hit the Appointment Committee of Parliament has brought huge shame to the party and the high office that he occupies.

An NDC MP for Bawku, Mahama Ayariga accused his colleague MP, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, of being a conduit through which the Minister-designate for Energy, Boakye Agyarko, attempted bribing members on the Appointment Committee to ensure his approval after his vetting.

Hon. Ayariga allegedly that the Minority Chief Whip gave him and other members GH?3,000.00 thinking it was their sitting allowance that had been promised them, but returned the money after they found out that the money was a bribe from the Minister-designate for Energy.

Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak has since then denied ever giving any money to Mahama Ayariga.

An 5-member Ad hoc committee chaired by Former Attorney General and MP for Essikado, Joe Ghartey is currently probing the bribery scandal.

Speaking to Kasapa News, Mr Tawiah Boateng stated that he wants Hon. Muntaka to relinquish his post as he’s not being truthful in his defence.

“All his other colleagues on the Appointment Committee apart from the Minority Leader assert that the money he brought them is bribe, how can he turn round and take money from Hon. Agyarko who at his vetting described President Mahama as a corrupt person. What is worrying is his constant defence that the allegation is not true. He should give up the Minority Chief Whip position for another person who can best work to prosecute the agenda of the minority in Parliament. If there is any truth to be told he should tell our party General Secretary, Asiedu Nketia so we know how to handle the matter.”
