He has accused the past government of doing little to improve the living standards of the people in the constituency.

Areas like Moshie Zongo, the largest Zongo community in the Ashanti Region, grapple with inadequate basic amenities like water, quality healthcare and school.

Thuggery and other social vices inimical to socio-economic development are rife among the youth in the area. Yenyawoso, for instance, has poor drainage system with about 60 to 70 percent of the vicinity flooding at the slightest downpour.

For Buokrom, Krofrom and Dote, 67 per cent of the road network are inaccessible. Few commercial cars which ply these areas charge exorbitant fares due to constant breakdown of vehicles. According to MP Collins Owusu Amankwaa, the life of the constituency is only comparable to people who have been cut off from the national development. “My people also pay taxes and must also enjoy the national cake,” Mr. Amankwaa said.

Most development in the constituency were initiated and executed by the MP’s Common Fund which he said is not enough to address all the needs of his constituents considering the exigencies.

Mr. Amankwaa also lamented how the past administration redirected funds meant for the development of the constituency to the Asokore Mampong Municipality.

“The past administration secured funds to redevelop and repair roads in Kumasi, before we realised the money had been given to the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly…Is this fair?” he quizzed.

The legislator was optimistic that the current administration would be sensitive to the plight of the people of Manhyia North. He said the introduction of the Zongo Development Fund, for instance, is an antidote to the plight of people in Moshie Zongo.

He promised the people that he would do his maximum best to ensure that they also benefit from the fund. Meanwhile, Collins Owusu Amankwaa has donated an ambulance and set of medical items to the Sepe-Buokrom Health Center and Moshie Zongo Clinic.

The package is to improve healthcare and also ensure rapid responds to all health needs.
