The Diverse Currencies of Africa: Impact on Economic Growth

While individual preferences and viewpoints must be allowed for diversity, the views of the Chairman of the NDC, Minister of Education, Minister of Gender and Social Protection, and the Ga Traditional Council are really shocking.

Going to prison is unfortunate and no one wishes that for a colleague but an act of indiscipline seriously needs to be punished.

There have been several calls of the need to sanitise our political system but it appears these notable men and women believe we can wait this out or postpone it to another time.

None of these people came out to condemn this unfortunate act. In fact, they pretended not to know of it and as though that is not enough, the public is being misinformed to think it is an attempt to curtail press freedom. Really? Has any radio station or radio program been shut down after this event?

Are these advocates telling us those words used by the young men are at their prerogative and so should be allowed regardless of the implications?

When should we start instilling discipline? Which form should it take? Who should we start with? Where should we start from? Should we resign ourselves and accept it as “normal”?

#Isn’t the Minister of Education supposed to ensure that we are taught discipline as part of our curricular and in fact become a disciplined society?

#Isn’t the Minister of Gender and Social Protection supposed to really ensure Social Protection, with women clearly as priority?

#Shouldn’t the Chairman of a political party be a major advocate for discipline in our dear country?

#Isn’t the Traditional Council supposed to ensure discipline and sanity in our environs? Are they not supposed to ensure respect of authority? Do they not demand respect of their authority?

These actions really beat one’s imagination.

Or are they signing under duress?

Could the President be the one pushing his ministers and his appointees to sign the petition so that he could get or have a basis to effect this Presidential Pardon?

We indeed live in interesting and dangerous times.

– Divine Nkrumah/PPP
