The founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor has made a sharp u-turn on her decision not to contest the 2016 general elections.

Akua Donkor following her disqualification by the Electoral Commission (EC), announced she would not be contesting the elections again and threw her support behind the sitting President.

“I am not contesting again; I am now going to throw my support behind my son, John Mahama. When he is done in 2020, then his mother will come back and contest…,” Akua Donkor announced after her disqualification.

She thus proceeded to campaign for President John Mahama and the NDC.

But following an order by the Supreme Court for the EC to allow the disqualified presidential hopefuls to correct the mistakes on her nomination forms on Monday November 7, Madam Akua Donkor says she has decided to suspend her campaign for President John Mahama.

She said on Adom FM’s Midday News that, she is returning to Accra from Cape Coast where she has been on a campaign tour for the President to correct the mistakes on her nomination forms.

“I have heard the order, and that is a good one because we are very tired, if the Supreme Court has asked that we be allowed to correct them, then I am coming to fix mine as well.

“I am in Cape Coast, and I am driving to Accra like ‘kakai’ to fix the problems on my nomination forms too…,” she said.

Asked if she was still convinced she could sail through, Akua Donkor responded in the affirmative insisting that, God will be her guide.

Akua Donkor said she is coming with her running mate to do the necessary corrections.
