President John Dramani Mahama has said he will continue to trumpet the achievements of his government and that the first term of his administration has recorded remarkable successes which could not be swept under the carpet.

According to him, when he paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace Monday, the Asantehene encouraged him to go out and tell the success story of his administration to the Ghanaian people.

“Otumfuo told me to go out and tell the people the work we have done because no one will tell the success story better than me.”

President Mahama said this when he addressed a rally at Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua Constituency as part of his campaign tour of the Ashanti region.

It was one of the biggest rallies held in the Ashanti region since the President took his campaign to the region on Sunday.

The President told the excited crowds that his government had been faithful to region.

He mentioned socio-economic infrastructure in the areas of health, roads, electricity, water and education among others as examples of the work done in the region.

President Mahama stated that funding for the second phase of the Kejetia market complex project had been secured, and work would start soon.

He said in 2005, the NPP government declared Kumasi Airport as an international airport without providing the required facilities but under his administration, the Airport had been provided with runway lights that allow aircraft to land and take off at night.

“We are moving further to extend the runway under phase two of the airport expansion project,” he said.

President Mahama assured the people that plans to revive the Nyinahin Bauxite Mining were on course.

Akufo-Addo running away

The General Secretary of the NDC , Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, mocked Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for “running away from a debate with President Mahama.”

He said the NPP presidential candidate was avoiding the debate because he feared being exposed by President Mahama.

The Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Dr Kwaku Agyeman Mensah, described the President as the “real Adwumawura” because of the level of development the country had achieved in his first term.

He said the days of Mr. Isaac Asiama as Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua were coming to an end because it was all clear that the MP would lose the parliamentary election in December to the NDC.
