One of the disappointed presidential aspirants, Kofi Akpaloo has threatened to personally arrest the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei if she goes ahead to hand him to the police for alleged forgery.

The EC has declared its intention to hand Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, Mr Hassan Ayariga, and Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, flag bearers of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), All People’s Congress (APC), Independent People’s Party (IPP)) and National Democratic Party (NDP), respectively, and some other disqualified flag bearers to the police to help in investigations into suspected forgery of signatures and other offences committed while completing their nomination forms for the December polls.

The chairperson of the EC, Mrs Charlotte Osei, on Monday October 10 disqualified 12 presidential aspirants and disclosed that those who forged signatures and other information while filling their nomination forms will face the law for flouting CI 94 of the EC’s regulations.

In most cases, the suspects signed more than one nomination form and tried in various ways to hide their illegal action, including changing their signatures and altering their names.

There were different signatures from the same persons who subscribed to the candidates’ nominations raising questions about the legitimacy of those signatures.

The EC, therefore, said it would report the forgeries to the Ghana Police Service and the Attorney General for investigation and prosecution.

However, Mr Akpaloo, who is the founder and leader of the Independent People’s Party (IPP) has vowed to resist any such move to curtail his freedom.

“If she dares take me to police or the AG for me to be arrested then I will first arrest her personally because I know I have not flouted any rules” he declared.

Mr Akpaloo announced his intention to seek legal redress for the “unfair treatment” meted out to him by the EC.

“I will go to court and put injunction on the election because I can’t allow any elections without my name on the ballot paper. I want my name to appear on the paper because I know I’m going to win this election” a livid Akpaloo asserted.
