Businessman Alfred Woyome has rubbished claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that he paid huge sums of money to some executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and operatives out of the 51 million cedi judgment debt.

The NPP at a press conference on Monday mentioned the names of persons who benefited from the said amount, including NDC’s General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and his Deputy Koku Anyidoho.

Even though Mr Woyome agrees that the details given could be part of information retrieved from his office a couple of years ago, he maintains there is no evidence to effect that the monies paid were from the judgment debt.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr Woyome’s Spokesperson, Reginald Seth Dogbey said : “Mr Woyome was not a man of straw before he was paid judgment debt” adding that “Mr Woyome in 2010 sponsored Ghana to South Africa with huge monies, he wasn’t paid judgment debt.”

He further challenged the NPP to explain how they were able to arrive at that conclusion.

“Now it is left in the mouth of Nana Akomea and the NPP to tell how they are able to decipher what money Mr Woyome expended whether it is from the judgment debt or his private resource. We’ve made the point that Mr Agbesi Woyome is a private businessman and has the right to transact business with whoever he wants.

“Secondly Mr. Woyome has always maintained that he is a social democrat and a member of the NDC. So every genuine member of an organization can voluntarily contribute to the course of that organization and he did that. So we don’t see anything totally different about this. In any case, the NPP itself is being sponsored by individuals who have the capability, means and the resources,” he added.

The Director of Communications of the NPP, Nana Akomea, at the press conference said Mr Woyome financed many projects of the NDC and paid some sums to some individuals within the party.

Nana Akomea said, “GH¢60,000 payment was made to Mr Jewel Ackah on 16th of June 2011. They include a GH¢20,000 payment to General Mosquito on 2nd September 2011 and GH¢8,000 payment to one Suhuni of Radio Gold.”

He also mentioned the editor of the Insight Newspaper, Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr as also receiving GH¢2,000 from Woyome.
