The team were travelling to Medellin to play Atletico Nacional in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final – the equivalent of the Europa league Monday night. The accident reportedly left 76 dead and five survivors severely wounded.

I am saddened by the news of the plane crash which has taken away souls of innocent persons. I join all people of different religions in prayers to the most high God to give our brethren peaceful rest. Again, it is also our prayerful plea that God provides comfort to the bereaved families and the entire citizenry of the countries of their origin. May the sorrowful demise of our departed friends and loved ones lead us to a better world of togetherness and unity. Asamoah Gyan, Captain, Ghana Black Stars.

Tributes trooping in from all over the world…

Following the tragic incident, the football world have been sending in their tributes to Brazil’s Chapecoense Real. Among top world players who are mourning the departed footballers are Barcelona stars Neymar and Messi who both disclosed thay have used the crashed plane on different occasions.

Neymar took to his Instagram page to say the news was ‘impossible to believe’,

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero who sent his own condolence also indicated he had used the same plane.

Reports from Brazil claim that some clubs have promised to loan players to Chapecoense for free. They are also asking that the club be exempted from relegation for three years.

We also use this medium to share the grieves of the the Chapecoense, Brazilians and the entire football world who were affected by the massive loss in one way or the other.

May the souls of the lost players rest in peace.
