Group Wants CPP Executives To Go

SOME constituency executives of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the Eastern Region are demanding the resignation of the party’s Chairman, Professor Edmund Delle, and the entire leadership of the Nkrumahist party for running down the CPP.

According to the Concerned Constituency Executives, the CPP has been reduced to a “fan club” without any political relevance under the “bad” and “rotten” leadership of Prof. Delle and Mr. Ivor Greenstreet, the 2016 flag-bearer of the party.

The group in a statement said the party’s chairman had failed to call for a single meeting or set up a committee to determine what went wrong in the 2016 election.

“Today the CPP has been reduced to a fan club without any political relevance as the supposed political party is now to the monetary benefit of Prof. Delle and Mr. Greenstreet, who always are ready to do the bidding of the highest paymasters between the NDC and the NPP,” the statement said.

The executives accused Prof. Delle of running the party with “divide-and-rule tactics, where the party never did any transaction through its accounts ahead of the elections.”

The statement said Prof. Delle promised to ensure harmony and peace within the leadership of the party but rather suspended the elected general secretary and the national youth organiser.

“Today there is no General Secretary, whether acting or substantive, in the CPP,” it added.

The group also accused him of failing to secure at least five parliamentary seats as he promised, losing the party’s only seat to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The group further accused the leadership of the party of failing to support its 222 parliamentary candidates in the 2016 elections and running a “handbag” campaign which resulted in the abysmal performance of the party at the polls.

“We, the members of the Concerned Constituency Executives, call on the leadership to resign their positions and hand over the party to the Council of Elders for an early congress of the party. Until this is done, we shall continue to engage the media to alert them on the state of our party as there is no structure working in the party now,” the statement concluded.
