Group Condemns NDC Over Akufo-Addo’s Coffin

It is barbaric in the modern era to carry a coffin to party functions with posters of an opposition leader to claim that he is dead, The Movement for Kingdom Image (MFKI), has said.

In view of this, the group has said President John Dramani Mahama must sanction supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who thronged the Sunyani Coronation Park during the launch of the party’s manifesto with coffins bearing posters of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

the MFKI, in a statement issued by its president, Osempakani Kaakyire, said: “We … have observed with greatest discomfort the escalating indiscipline in the NDC in its rank and file and we express our greatest disappointment in the leadership of the National Democratic Congress led by President John Dramani Mahama and General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

“We expect Mr Mahama and his party secretary to call some undisciplined youth to order … to make Ghana attractive to the outside world. We think in this time and age, it’s too barbaric to carry coffins to party functions with pictures of the opposition leader and claim that it is the body of the opposition leader for burial. Even though leadership of the party saw their followers engaging in such undisciplined act, they could not stop them but rather urged them on.

“Inasmuch as we need democracy in the country, we also believe the best form of democracy is discipline and respect for individuals, especially the elderly in society. We … think it is not acceptable and … therefore, we expected President Mahama to have condemned it because he saw the coffin going round. Let’s respect [each other] because politics will be over but life will go on,” the group said.
