The move, according to Ken Ofori-Atta, the Minister of Finance, is part of efforts to make Ghana a preferred tourism destination as well as create jobs for the youth.

Delivering President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first budget before Parliament on Thursday, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, announced that the government will undertake several projects to achieve that goal.

One of the key projects in that regard is the construction of a Marine Drive project this year. The project will stretch from the Osu Christiansborg Castle to the Arts Centre in Accra.

According to him, the project, among others, if completed will help boost tourism in the country and also provide jobs for the youth.

He noted that, the government’s objective is to transform the country into a major meeting incentive conference and exhibition centre.

“In 2017, the government will kick start the Marine Drive Tourism Investment Project covering the over 240 acres of land from the Osu Christiansborg Castle to the Arts Centre. This project will transform the beach area into a tourism enclave to create jobs for our youth,” the Finance Minister explained.

He added that the government will partner the private sector to develop the Efua Sutherland Children’s park into a modern world recreation facility while also implementing a single window to help market the country’s tourism.

The Minister also added that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture will undertake a food festival to “showcase the diverse rich Ghanaian foods through cooking competition throughout the country.”
