They are made up of 13 political parties and two independent candidates.

The political parties are the Democratic People’s Party (DPP), the All People’s Party (APP) and the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP).

The others are the United Development System Party (UDSP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the National Democratic Party (NDP), the United Love Party (ULP), the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Independent People’s Party (IPP), the United Progressive Party (UPP), the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) and the united Front Party (UFP) picked their forms last Tuesday.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 started giving out nomination forms to interested political parties and candidates who wish to contest in the election.

Presidential candidates are to pay a filing fee of GH¢50,000, while parliamentary candidates will pay GH¢10,000.

Meanwhile, nomination forms for parliamentary aspirants have been sent to the various districts across the country.

Both the presidential and parliamentary candidates are required to return the nominations forms to the EC from September 29 to 30, 2016.

All the political parties will also be given copies of the certified voters register by September 23, 2016.

Pick forms early

The Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Mr Samuel Tettey, had earlier urged aspirants, both presidential and parliamentary, to pick their forms early so that in the event of any errors on them, the aspirants would have ample time to effect corrections to prevent any disqualification.

He said the commission was considering requests to revise its filing fees as there were complaints that they were high.

He said a meeting would be held to discuss the issue but until then, the fees remained the same.
