Cecilia Anim works as a clinical nurse specialist in sexual and reproductive health at the Margaret Pyke Centre in London, and specializes in family planning and other aspects of women’s health. She is notable for having some particular interest in menopause and public health issues.

Cecelia’s exceptional and outstanding role as a nurse, as well as her contributions to her community, earned her the prestigious award. Speaking on Citi News, Cecelia whose hard work and diligence finally paid off, emphasized on the importance of upholding the professional integrity of nursing. She therefore advised nurses to put in their best in the field.

Cecilia Anim is currently based in Marylebone; and is the President of the Royal College of Nurses (RCN), a position she has held since 2014. She was previously elected deputy president in 2010. Cecelia made history in 2014 when she became the first black president of the Royal College of Nurses.

Born in Ghana, Anim attended St Ann’s Girls’ School before heading for Midwifery training at the Komfo Anokye Hospital, Kumasi, where she worked before moving to the UK and qualified as a nurse in 1977. Having completed her UK general nursing course at Hull Royal Infirmary, she took up post there as a staff nurse in pediatrics.

Cecelia has been a member of RCN for 30 years. She was an RCN steward for 17 years and a health and safety representative for 17 years. Cecilia was also the staff-side secretary working in partnership with other unions, and secretary of her local RCN branch for 10 years. She then chaired the new branch and served on the London board before taking up the position of deputy president.

In addition to these responsibilities, Cecilia previously served on the Ethics Forum Steering Committee and was also a member of the RCN Menopause Nurses Steering Group. Cecilia still coordinates the Network Group in London. In recognition of Cecilia’s contributions, she was awarded the RCN Certificate of Merit for outstanding service to members.

Anim was also awarded the Bevan award for Health and Wellbeing in 2013. She also received an honorary Doctor of Health degree from Bradford University in 2016.
