The commander said this while addressing a parade organized by the police command to usher in the New year at the forecourt of the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua.

He said “just putting on the uniform does not make you a police officer, but rather what comes out from you makes your profession worthy, try as much as possible to be highly professional and exhibit the professionalism you were thought at the training school to bring repute to our work.”

The commander added that “you have been trained for a special duty which comes along with ethics, rules and regulations, so we implore you all to go by the rules of our profession to the highest limits in discharging your duties as service personnel.”

He then heaped praises on their efforts in the past years, and urged them to do better this year.

Briefing the media after the parade, DCOP Peterkin Yentumi Gynae said the police command has been able to control the operations of galamsey and chieftaincy issues in the region, saying “I am proud to say that in 2016, chieftaincy and galamsey issues went down so well in this region and we intend to improve upon it. It is not a one sided affair, the heat comes up and we quickly go in to restore calm for peace to prevail, but there’s still more to do in the coming days.”

DCOP Peterkin Yentumi Gynae, who also spoke on the issue of Fulani Heardsmen destroying farms in the region, said the command has controlled it and is still strategizing to eradicate it.

“I arrived in the region at the latter part of the year, and I can tell you we did not experience so many issues with nomadic fulani herdsmen, together with the regional security council, we have worked assiduously to control it and we are still strategizing to eradicate the problem. Two months ago we met with all stakeholders and we took some decisions on this issues so I hope the decisions we took will be adhered to by all the stakeholders.”

The command also organized an inter-unit football gala to appreciate the hard work the personnel put up in ensuring a peaceful 2016 elections in the region.

ASP Yaw Nketiah Yeboah in an interview with Citi News said “the aim of the football gala is to refresh and further strengthen the already existing unity and love between the various units and also to appreciate our men for the gallant way they exhibited professionalism during the recently held election.”
