A leading member of the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa has suggested to Kingmakers to destool chiefs in communities affected by illegal mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’.

He further proposed that the District Police Commanders in galamsey areas should also be sacked and appointment of District Chief Executives (DCEs) be stopped.

The Pathologist believes this will serve as deterrent to other chiefs who have allowed illegal mining companies to invade their communities with impunity.

Prof. Akosa observed that water bodies serving communities are all polluted due to nefarious activities by illegal mining companies.

‘I am proposing that in future chiefs in illegal miners invaded communities should be destooled; appointment of District Chief Executives (DCEs) should be stopped and District Police Commanders also be sacked.

Sometimes we have got to be very radical because they can’t say they don’t have any idea about happenings in their surroundings,’ he said.

Prof. Akosa complained that there is total lack of leadership in the country, questioning why leaders have failed to tackle the issue.

‘There is total lack of leadership in the country, nobody has tried to tackle this issue in the supreme interest of the country, all that we are good at is to give empty promises juts to score cheap political points,’ he fumed.

Speaking on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, he wondered why residents in the affected areas have kept mute over the disturbing phenomenon, when they lack potable drinking water.

‘I will deal ruthlessly with galamsey operators who will attempt to operate in my hometown; they would have to kill me first. Why expect the government to deal with the issue when residents can take it up, is he an indigene of your hometown? Do I blame them; almost all of them have been given GH?50.00 each to shut their mouths. I feel so sad for our communities, and Ghana as a whole,’ he cried.
