Plans are underway to include the study of climate change in the education curriculum to equip students to better understand the impact of climate change on the country.
The Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is in talks with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to make the study of climate change a core subject for students from both basic and secondary level.
This they said will form part of the implementation of the national climate change policy and the master plan strategy.
According to the ministry of environment, the impact of climate change on the country cannot be overlooked any longer.
They say climate change is not only an environmental issue but a developmental one, hence the need for awareness creation from the grassroots.
The Director of the national focal point on climate change education at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr. Emmanuel Tachie Obeng, says Ghana’s economy could collapse if education on climate change is not intensified.
He also admonished Ghanaians to adapt to the current weather conditions and live lives that will minimise the impact of climate change on them.
