Be Humble and Learn From Your Predecessor – Edward Mahama To EC Boss

The leader of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Dr Edward Mahama has advised the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam Charlotte Osei to go back and learn from her predecessor, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan as far as her dealings with political parties are concerned.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Thursday, Mr Mahama opined that though Madam Osei is trying hard to discharge her duties very well, her approach to issues has made people very suspicious of her “that she is going to rig the elections for a particular party”.

The EC had disqualified Mr Mahama along with 12 other flagbearers for filing presidential nomination forms with anomalies.

But following legal tussles that began in the High Court and ended in the Supreme Court, the apex court ordered the EC to allow the affected candidates to correct the errors and resubmit them.

Mr Mahama and two other parties were given the nod on Wednesday to contest by the EC after approving of their respective party’s re-submitted presidential nomination forms after reviewing it.

Mr Mahama said though he had lost everything after the party’s plan to raise funds ahead of the elections was cut short by his disqualification, he is ready to put everything behind him and continue with his campaign.

According to him, the ruling government has not helped the EC boss to be independent which he believes is very worrying.

He insisted that Madam Charlotte Osei should have made an effort to qualify all 17 candidates since it was not an examination test but an opportunity to present candidates to Ghanaians to make their right choices.

“The EC boss has a bigger lesson to learn because though she may think that she is working, her posture sometimes makes her look suspicious.

“She is even lucky that Afari Gyan is not dead and it is an opportunity for her to learn because she has a lot to learn, she has to convince us that she is not favoring anybody, the ball is in her court not mine” he declared.
