Aspiring MP Chides Mahama, DCE Over Poor Sandema Road

NPP parliamentary candidate for Builsa South Constituency, Daniel Gariba, says reason cited by the DCE of Builsa South District Assembly for the discontinuation of works on the Chuchuliga-Sandema road is laughable.

Reacting to complaints of residents about the rough nature of the road during the Joy Ballot Box programme held on Friday at Fumbisi in the Upper East Region, Elizabeth Jane Afuic said works on the road had been put on hold because of the rainy season.

She explained the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has had a lot going on to address the road situation in the Upper East Region.

“During the President’s visit those who have been ploughing that road know the road is better than it used to be,” she said.

Work will continue after the rainy season had passed, she told residents.

But Mr Gariba wondered why the President would cut the sod for the construction of the road to commence when he knew it was the rainy season.

“When the president was coming, did he come in the dry season?” he asked the DCE to a thunderous applause from residents who had gathered to engage their parliamentary aspirants.

He said President Mahama being a native of the North knew it was the rainy season yet he cut the sod because of he wants to win the votes of the people. “The sod cutting was a 419.”

The NPP, he said did more infrastructural projects with little money but the NDC does less with more money.

“The NPP with just GH¢20 billion we were able to construct more road networks in the country. Nana Addo will fix this road,” he said, adding the only thing it takes to fix the road is a committed leader who will be true to his promises like the NPP flagbearer.

Presidential staffer and NDC parliamentary aspirant for Builsa South Constituency, Dr Clement Appaak said a study he conducted into the cost of the road pegged the figure at GH¢700m.

He explained the tendering process has been ongoing and that President Mahama will fix the Sandema road by the end of his second term which is January 2022.
