Aggressive Campaign Not Hindering Governance Duties

The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) aggressive campaign strategy ahead of the December polls is not negatively affecting its governance responsibilities, the NDC Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho, has said.

According to Mr. Anyidoho, party and government officials involved in the campaigning reserve at least two days a week for administrative work.

The NDC has been engaged in a multi-pronged campaign effort nationwide headed by its Flagbearer, President John Mahama; Running Mate, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur; Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, NDC National Chairman, Kofi Poturphy among others.

President Mahama just concluded a tour of the Upper East Region whilst Vice President Amissah-Arthur and the Chief of Staff have begun campaign tours of the Central and Greater Accra Regions respectively.

But speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Anyidoho argued that,“the running of the country is not limited to Accra and luckily in this day and age, thanks to technology, thanks to modern ways of communicating, thanks to modern ways of travelling and moving around the country, a lot can get done outside Accra.”

“What we do as part of the campaign strategy is that at least every Monday and every Tuesday, everybody is back in Accra to do administrative work,” he stated.

“So while we are doing the government administrative work, those of us at the party headquarters also have to engage in administrative work at the party headquarters.”

Mr. Anyidoho noted that government still has a lot of commitments to honour this election period, including meetings with election observers, functions organised by civil society organisations and some media engagements.

“So we make time for the administrative aspects of running the party and the country, but then we also know we are on the last lap so we must also hit the ground out there and go and pull out the votes,” the NDC General Secretary said.
