40 Former MPs Sue Attorney General, Finance Ministry Over Pension Pay

The Attorney-General (A-G) and the Ministry of Finance have been sued by forty (40) Members of Parliament under the erstwhile Kufour administration over pensions owed them. The forty are demanding at least GHc 233, 495 each.

The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo, Acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and private legal practitioner, Captain Effah Dartey are part of the former MPs.

The initial lump sum was said to be GHc 13,735 per plaintiff, but interest accrued on the amount from January 2009 to February 2016 raises the amount to GHc 233,495.

The plaintiffs among other reliefs are praying the court to refund their legal bills. Negotiations between the MPs and government have been held since 2011 but they say their demands have still not been met.

In their writ, the 40 former MPs said, in a letter dated June 25, 2015, the Attorney General directed the Ministry of Finance to make the payments, but the Minister of Finance at the time refused, neglected or failed to make the payments as directed. Find below the list of former MPs
