Injured West Ham United new signing Andre Ayew will not require surgery to remedy his condition, the club’s head of Medical and Sports Science, Stijn Vandenbroucke, has revealed.

The Ghanaian pulled out of his Hammers debut on 35 minutes earlier this month after straining his hamstring in the 2-1 Premier League defeat to Chelsea.

Earlier reports said the Ghanaian could have surgery, one that could keep him on the sidelines for up to four months.

“Andre Ayew suffered a rare but very serious thigh injury at Chelsea, which will take time to recover from,” Vandenbroucke told his club’s official website.

“Andre will not have surgery, and we have started the rehab straight away, working two times a day.

“Andre is a highly professional athlete with a positive attitude that no doubt will affect the return to play date.

“It is early to put a timeline on the rehab, but we are positive to reintroduce him in December.”

Ayew’s non-surgery treatment means the 26-year-old is expected to spend two to three months out, as confirmed in Vandenbroucke’s return date of December.

The medical chief’s prognosis is in line with an earlier revelation by West Ham manager Slaven Bilic, who disclosed that the winger is expected back from the treatment room on December 1.

In that case, the former Marseille man will have a month of action before Ghana named their squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Gabon.

Ayew joined West Ham earlier this month after netting 12 goals in 34 league appearances for Swansea City last season.
