Dr Lawrence Tetteh, an International Evangelist and football enthusiast, on Tuesday, called on sports administrators to create proper counselling sessions for the nation’s gallant sportsmen, who represent the country worldwide.

Dr Tetteh who was reacting to a disparaging comment made by Razak Brimah, the country’s goalkeeper at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, noted that most of the sportsmen did not realise that they were able ambassadors of Ghana.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra, he said most of this unfortunate attitudes and utterances about our sportsmen showed and tell how uninformed they were about their role in the society as role models and representatives of the nation.

“It is very important for us to impress on them to know the value and roles they play to represent us. They also serve as vessels to promote national cohesion and nation building.

Dr Tetteh said he and others were advocating that Ghanaians should forgive the Black Stars for the unfortunate incidence that happened during the last World Cup in Brazil, where players refused to play because of allowances and other issues that led to the indefinite suspension of some of the brilliant players.

He said he was expecting the current African Nations to be used as a platform to reconcile Ghanaians towards the national team, therefore the outburst of Brimah was unfortunate and misguided.

Dr Tetteh, therefore, asked Ghanaians to forgive the goal keeper, who had retracted and apologised for his unguarded statement, which he said was very laudable and a sign of repentance.

He, however, commended the Captain of the national team- Asamoah Gyan and his deputy- Andrea Ayew for keeping the team spirit together as they get ready for the semi-finals.

Dr Tetteh urged them to bring the cup home and assured them of the prayers of Ghanaians towards their victory.

Brimah launched an attack on his critics about his performance at the tournament, questioning their right to question his competence, when he had helped the Black Stars to advance to the semi-finals of the game.
