Las Palmas won their game in La Liga on Saturday with Kevin Prince Boateng coming off the bench in the second half after Momo’s early penalty goal had put them in the lead against Malaga.
The 10th minute spot kick was enough for Los Amarillos to earn their ninth point of the season and surge to the top of the Spanish log ahead of Sunday’s games involving Real Madrid.
The Yellows lead Barcelona and Atletico Madrid who have also played four matches each.
In contrast, this time last season Las Palmas had only two points from draws against Levante and Celta Vigo after losing matches against Atletico Madrid and Rayo Valecano.
Their first win of the 2015/16 season came against Sevilla in their fifth game.
Summer signing Boateng has already contributed two goals in big victories over Valencia and Granada and would be expected to chip in more strikes if his side are to finish above 11th place from last season.
The 29-year-old was released from AC Milan last season after making 10 appearances for the Rossoneri where he scored once.
Las Palmas will face a couple of challenging games over the next when they meet Real Sociedad and Real Madrid in the space of four days.
