Black Stars Players and Technical Handlers Receive $10,000 Each for 2-0 Victory over Comoros

Black Stars players and technical handlers received an amount of $10,000 each from the Ministry of Youth and Sports as payment of their outstanding bonus for the Ghana-Rwanda World Cup qualifier.
However, the winning bonus for their 2-0 victory over Comoros in the return leg World Cup qualifier last Tuesday remains outstanding, the Graphic Sports has learnt.
The amount of money to be paid as winning bonus has remained a thorny issue in recent months with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Mustapha Ahmed dropping the hint last week that the bonus could be reduced to $5,000 as the country’s economic challenges would not permit the government to maintain the current bonus of $10,000.
After defeating Rwanda 1-0 in Kigali two months ago, the Stars were paid $10,000 for their 7-1 drubbing of Mauritius in their Nations Cup qualifier in June, leaving an arrears for the Rwanda victory which was honoured last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Ghana FA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has described last Tuesday’s win over Comoros at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, as a huge step towards the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
He said without Tuesday’s win, Ghana’s world Cup dream would have been effectively over.
“Without clearing this hurdle, we wouldn’t have been able to play [in the group qualifiers] and so it’s a huge step towards Russia 2018,” he told the Graphic Sports last Wednesday.
The FA boss said the victory was also an opportunity to once again rally the nation behind the team, and was full of praise for the fans who turned up at the Baba Yara stadium for their overwhelming support for the Stars.
He indicated that the FA and the Stars technical handlers were waiting for the draws for the group phase of the African qualifying campaign in order to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of Ghana’s opponents.
