The German-born believes renaming his erstwhile national team colleague as Black Stars coach will not be out of place
Former Ghana defender Anthony Baffoe is backing Kwesi Appiah for the Back Stars job as the search for a new coach continues.
Reports say Appiah is currently on the Ghana Football Association three-man shortlist and is widely tipped to land the job barring any last-minute change of plans.
The 56-year-old coached Ghana between 2012 and 2014, departing after the Black Stars’ poor showing at the World Cup in Brazil.
“Kwesi Appiah was my mate, somebody I like a lot,” Baffoe told Joy Sports.
“We get along very well and we all call him ‘gentle capito’.
“What I have seen and read is that he is one of the favourites [for the job].
“Personally, I will not go against him, this is one thing I can tell you.
“If it’s something I wasn’t satisfied with, I will tell him.
“There have been a lot of returns in football and many other coaches as well, so we have to wait and see.”
Appiah also guided Ghana to a fourth finish at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa during his first stint.
After the World Cup, where the Black Stars suffered a historic first round elimination, the ex-national defender took up a job as head coach of Sudanese club Al Khartoum.
Baffoe was born in Germany but represented Ghana at international level.
