Chief Executive Officer of the Business and Financial Times (B&FT), Edith Darkwa, has been awarded Fellow Certified Economist (FCE) by the Institute of Chartered Economists of Ghana (ICEG).
The fellowship was conferred on Mrs. Dankwa at a short ceremony in Accra last Friday, at which event president of the institute, Prof. Peter Tuffour Asubonteng, as well as its CEO, Daniel Anim-Prempeh, lauded her for contributing greatly to the growth of corporate Ghana.
A part of the citation read: “indeed, it is very difficult to find a female general in the corporate competitive business environment on the continent. Mrs. Edith Darkwa, your sterling and visionary leadership, strategic thinking and planning skills, high shared sense of purpose, self-discipline and professionalism, mutual trust and support for your team, high degree of passion and excellence positioned you as a Captain in the corporate world.”
ICEG is a registered professional body that trains, certifies and confers honours on professional economists and individuals as well as corporate institutions that have contributed towards the growth and development of Ghana.
In a short speech before the conferment, Mr. Anim-Prempeh said ICEG believes in women empowerment and that Mrs. Darkwa is deserving of the honours as she is “doing so well not only in Ghana but on the continent of Africa.”
Reacting to the award, Mrs Dankwa said: “It is a privilege to be considered for the conferment of a Fellow Award by the Institute of Certified Economists of Ghana that has since 1973 promoted the study of economics and ensured professionalism in the practice of the art of economics in the country.”
She added that the award places a responsibility on her and all fellows of the Institute to educate the public about key economic issues being sounded by politicians.
The Ghanaian economy, she said, requires the attention and action of all corporate executives if the lot of all citizens is to be made better.
“Although the government is the biggest buyer in the economy, economists have a key role in influencing which sector of the economy central government ought to allocate scarce resources,” she said.
Previous honourees of ICEG are the Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, Nesrin Bayazit, Royal Bank CEO, Robert Kow Bentil and Manging Director of Graphic Communications Group, Ken Asigbey.
