Hajia Alima Mahama, the ministerial nominee signed off a letter dated January 11, 2017 titled ‘Revocation of Appointments of Metropolitan/Municipal/District Chief Executives’ which ordered all MMDCE’s to vacate their posts and hand over their duties to the Directors of their various offices.

This generated quite a debate with people asking in what capacity she signed the letter when she had not been vetted and approved.

On the said letter it was signed as follows “Hon. Hajia Alima Mahama (MP), Representative of H. E The President at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Acting on Behalf of the President of the Republic.”

Responding to a question posed to her when she met parliaments vetting committee, the minister designate said “…in a letter dated 9th January, the president wrote to me Alima Mahama directing that I be his representative to take charge of affairs of the ministry of local government and rural development.

“Following on that he directed that by virtue of the powers vested in him in Article 24-33, he was revoking appointment of DCE’s and therefore I should go ahead and send out that letter and I did the letter, signed it [Hon. Hajia Alima Mahama (MP), Representative of H. E The President at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Acting on Behalf of the President of the Republic.]

She was the third nominee to appear before the committee after Alan Kyeremanten, nominee for Trade and Industry and Shirley Ayokor Botchwey, nominee for Foreign Affairs.
